No matter what your sweet tooth craves, there’s a locally owned shop in Nacogdoches that’s calling your name!
Located in the oldest town in Texas, Susu’s Popcorn & Candy Café will win you over quickly right after you head through the doors. The sweet aroma of popcorn in the air gets your mouth watering first, and right before the counter you’ll even be able to see how the popcorn gets made! There are well over 20 flavors you can enjoy, plus some rotate in and out as Susu’s finds out what people love the most.
“When my mother and I designed it with my brother and his wife, we wanted an open concept,” said Owner Susan ‘Susu’ Sowards. “They love seeing it, and if they’re children they can go back there and watch them dump the popcorn. It’s just a lot of fun.”
Visiting Susu’s makes you feel like you’re coming home to family with each visit. Even during our time interviewing Susu herself, she took the time to greet and make sure everyone who came through the doors had a wonderful experience at the store. If the love for the community that comes in matches the love that goes into the popcorn, you know it’s going to be magnificent.
“I’m living the dream. I have my family here and year, I just see myself doing this for as long as everybody wants to have popcorn,” said Susu. “We have 24 basics that we keep all the time, but we’re up to 30 right now.”

The popcorn is made from scratch, and you’ll have to keep coming back to try out new flavors as they come in and let Susu’s know which ones you love the most!
